Dinard

November 21, 2011

The main beach in Dinard, the Grande Plage, is in a bay with elegant mansions and gorgeous rented accommodation looking down on the beach. Of course, being the main beach it would fill up quickly at the height of summer holidays, but there are other beaches to visit. There are still some changing sheds along the beach. Pablo Picasso used this beach in some of his paintings. The other beaches, Plage de St_Enogat and Plage du Priere, aren’t far away, the latter being a quieter place to relax.

The walk along the coast path is a good one. The grand houses are worth a look as you walk along the path edged with beautiful blue water, tidal pools and a wonderful view of St Malo. St Malo can be reached from Dinard by bridge over the river Rance. This bridge is also a power station which supplies electricity for Brittany. The power station can be visited and is interesting.

Dining-out in Dinard is a pleasure too. For the whole family you should try the Le Cargo restaurant the food is great. For a good lunch any time of the day we found Le Club to be the one for us. Good food and a view of the beach.

Dinard has been favoured by the Brits since the Edwardian era and is still a place we like to spend our holidays and judging by the numbers we saw, that doesn’t look like changing any time soon.
